Life Below Water
The Australian Marine Debris Database was established to provide a standardised framework for volunteers and organisations conducting beach clean-up events to systematically collect data on marine debris. This consistent methodology allows for the aggregation of findings into a comprehensive national database.
Since its inception in 2004, the database has amassed over 11 million data points, offering a detailed picture of the types and quantities of marine debris affecting Australia's coastlines. With support from the Foundation for National Parks & Wildlife (FNPW), Tangaroa Blue will deepen its analysis of this extensive database and collaborate with communities, industry, and government to develop and implement source reduction plans aimed at addressing the root causes of marine debris.
